DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Objectives

Define the data requirements of WP3 understanding soil functions and WP4 Funtional Land Management Collate defined data from national and international data sources on soil, climate, land use and management practices Harmonize collated data according to international standards and terminology Generate diagnostic categories on soil properties, classes on land use and management and climatic indicators, applicable for the soil function studies Integrate input and output data in warehouse to allow for data sharing within the consortium and data maintenance and accessibility on the longer term.

WP2 is the data provider for the project, collating together extensive, harmonized datasets for each of the soil functions. Key members of the consortium team have provided both large scale national soil datasets and extensive experimental field trial data. The collation and harmonisation of this data is an iterative process throughout the project, but focuses on developing harmonised datasets on soil physical, chemical, biological, landscape, climatic and management attributes for the main climate zones across Europe. The work done to date has been incredible and has brought together data from 8 countries and over 33,000 spatial data points, with a range of data information. In addition to this European maps are included in the database.

To ensure that all this data is managed and stored in an appropriate manner, a data management plan was developed and agreed to by all LANDMARK team members and a data warehouse was established at INRA, from which data marts can be provided to the rest of the project team. The project data contact and database manager is Nicolas Saby (INRA). There is a constant requirement for updates between consortium partners and the available data of WP2, this needs careful management of human resources and strong communication within the project team. The tasks within WP2 are running and providing support to the development of WP3, WP4 and WP5.

Delivery of the Data warehouse with data used for processing and new data generated by the project (Deliverable 2.3) – this is due by the end of the project but the INRA Dataverse is accessible at https://data.inra.fr/dataverse/LandmarkH2020
